Aqaavibe Technologies custom builds ion exchange softeners for several industry groups. Hard water is considered un-fit for both industrial and domestic use.

Calcium (Ca²⁺) and Magnesium (Mg²⁺) are two of the salts/minerals that are responsible for hardness in water. The ions of these minerals/salts cause scaling of pipes and equipment, change the taste of water and are a primary problem to the laundry process. Ion exchange softeners we build are use in boiler feed water decalcification plants, cooling tower sand sewage treatment plant (STP) treated water recycling. Water softeners containing resin beads (ion exchangers), designed to exchange Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions with sodium ions.

Water softeners are specific ion exchangers that are designed to remove ions, which are positively charged. Softeners mainly remove calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions. Calcium and magnesium are often referred to as ‘hardness-causing minerals’. Softeners are sometimes even applied to remove iron. Softeners can operate automatically, semi-automatic, or manually. Each type is rated on the amount of hardness it can remove before regeneration is necessary. A water softener collects hardness minerals within its conditioning tank and from time to time flushes them away to drain. When an ion exchanger is applied for water softening, it will replace the calcium and magnesium ions in the water with other ions, for instance, sodium or potassium. The exchanger ions are added to the ion exchanger reservoir as sodium and potassium salts (NaCl and KCl).
